Early work
Back in 1976 my interest in colour and pattern and even patchwork was very much evident in my student work.
These dresses are examples of work that I made: the first is a dress I designed using a Collier Campbell furnishing fabric. I took elements from the fabric and hand stitched the light brown/blue lozenges together using paper piecing to make a patchwork tabard bodice.
The second outfit, a knitted suit which I knitted on a domestic knitting machine, has a complicated knitted design on the back of the jacket and around the hem of the skirt. I was quite ahead of my time in terms of designing patterned knitwear which was not widely available in the shops.
The tabard theme was repeated in the rust dress where I hand embroidered the separate tapestry tabard layer.
